The Big Guns - 18V

Makita's most powerful cordless tools run on the 18 volt platform and this line has the most room for continued growth.  You get long lasting performance without being incumbered by a cord and quick recharge cycles keep you going all day if you run two batteries and switch out.  The longer lasting Nickel-Metal Hydride in these batteries outperforms even the best Nickel Cadmium batteries by an advertized 70%.  These batteries deliver a lot of power and are my latest go to platform.

The 14.4 Volt Sweet Spot

I have a lot of cordless power tools in the 14.4 power platform. Whenever I need to replace batteries for this range of Makita cordless power tools I buy them in pairs. They contain the same Ni-MH battery at the 18V listed above but come in a smaller package. They deliver a little less power at only 2.6Ah but they seem to last forever. Buy two, get a discount and run these things forever.

12 Volts of Rechargable Power

The Makita 12 volt range of nickel cadmium batteries is being seen less and less on the market as consumers opt for more power delivered in the higher voltage batteries. That said, there is something to be appreciated in the lower weight of the 12 batteries from Makita. They charge quickly, deliver a lot of power and weigh much less than their super sized counterparts. Paired with the charger listed at right they will keep you going and not exhaust your arms by the end of the day.

Small Size, 9.6 Volts of Big Power

Weighing in at just one pound the Makita 9.6 volt batteries deliver a lot of power in a small package.  I use them to power my cordless flashlight for hours and simply drop the battery in the charger at the end of the night.  This battery uses the same universal charger listed above so you do not even a separate unit.  I recommend picking this up with a flashlight for long lasting rechargeable power.

Great Hub. Makita makes a great product and their chargers charge up a full battery pretty fast.
