Makita has been making high end power tools for many years and they just continue to increase in quality and power. In order to keep those tools running you need to keep them in fresh batteries. This page gives you an overview of the batteries available, what tools they go well with and what you can expect to pay for each battery. I also look at several available chargers to make sure those batteries are always charged and will serve you well for years to come. Any business is only as good as the tools available to it and Makita power tools are only valuable if they have quality batteries powering them.

Let's start with the Makita 193159 18 volt battery.  This is one of the more common batteries currently being used and it offers a lot of power for your makita tools.  They are available from a lot of different vendors on one is listed to the right.  They give hours of use and recharge quickly with the Makita BL1830 18 volt charger.  Of course, it makes sense to have one in the tool and one charging and discounts are available if you buy more than one.  These batteries are the new standard and will be such for the forseeable future.

The next battery on our list is the Makita 194157 14.4 volt pod type battery. This battery offers 2.6 amps per hour and is meant to last for many hours. It is built to fit in all 14 volt power tools with a pod type battery and comes with 5 contact points for increased current flow in even the roughest of conditions. The battery comes with a one year warranty and like all Makita products is built to last much beyond that.  It pairs with the Makita 1414 battery charger.  This combination has served me well for years.

The third battery/charger combination we are going to look at is the 12 volt Makita 1925982 rechargable NiCad battery.  This battery is made to work in all 12 volt tools with pod style batteries.  This is called the 'heart and soul' of Makita cordless power tools because it is time tested and approved over many years of hard use.  The 12 volt platform has been around much longer than the 18 volt or even 14.4 so the technology has had time to mature.  The extra long life Nickel Cadmium batteries can go for hour without recharge but when charging is required you can reach for the Makita DC1804 charger for a quick recharge.

The final battery and charger combination we will look at is the 9.6 volt combination.  This is the smallest of the available battery platforms but for small tools (flashlights and such) this works just fine and cuts down quite a bit on overall weight.  I reach for the Makita 1920194 9.6 volt battery and the accompanying changer when my compatible flashlight is running low on juice.  The charger I use is the Makita DC1804 charger which can be used for all Makita batteries from 7.2 through 18 volt.  It is actually the only charger I keep in my shop on a regular basis.  It is cost effective and universally compatible so it doesnt require any additional thought.
