Inexpensive Prescription Safety Glasses
62For many of us safety glasses are part of our standard work wear. I wear safety glasses as part of my "9 to 5" and I also require prescription glasses when I am not on the job. What I found when looking for prescription safety glasses is I did not have a lot of options that were both inexpensive and high quality. I have tried a lot of different brands and by now I know what I am looking for. The purpose of this hub is to outline what I look for in prescription safety glasses and what I look for when making a purchase. Take a look at the content below and feel free to leave a comment or a question by using the comment box at the bottom.
What to look for in Prescription Safety Glasses?
Safety glasses have to be able to take everything we can throw at them. I don't know about you but I am hard on glasses. It's not about the projectiles that can do real damage but it is about the day to day wear caused by me moving around and hitting them on various objects throughout the course of my normal work day. Prescription safety glasses have to be able to protect me from the unlikely but they also have to stand up to the day by day. The safety glasses pictured at right are a good example of safety protection and day to day durability. I actually own a pair of my own and have had nothing but good experience. They will last me years and I paid (relatively speaking) very little for them. Prescription safety glasses will always be a little more expensive than off the shelf safety glasses but they do not need to be over the top. As you can see, safety glasses do not need to be expensive and do not need to be name brand to be high quality and highly durable.
High Quality Construction
All of my safety glasses pass the 'flex test.' I take the glasses and give them a good twist. If they are good glasses, there will be a good amount of flex. If the lense pops out or (worse yet) the frame breaks I have eliminated a possibility from my list. I am not saying you should try to break all of your safety glasses but if they can't stand up to a little stress they will not stand up to your normal work day.
Durable, Safety Rated Lenses
The most expensive part of prescription safety glasses are the lenses. I want mine to stand the test of time and never go out of true. I demand a lot of my safety glasses on a daily basis and quality, accurate lense material is important. I have never had an issue with lenses because I always choose quality over anything else. Below I have listed several brands of safety glasses that I have tried personally. I would not recommend anything that I have not used and the below are all very good choices.
